Data Analysis Assessment for Community Developers
Kickstart Sessions complement the Jumpstart Wilmington program and offer information around specific topics related to the development process.
Data, evaluation, and evidence are essential tools, and they’re even more powerful when informed and contextualized by –then made accessible to—the very communities we seek to impact. As community development practitioners, data is essential to our work, especially knowing which datasets can give what information, how reliable the datasets are, and where to find them. This kickstart session aims to make data more accessible and encourage community action practitioners and stakeholders to use it to make better decisions about the future of their communities and service areas. It provides basic information about finding and using three types of information a community development practitioner and team are likely to need:
- Information about population statistics and poverty data.
- Information about neighborhood and primary market area conditions.
- Information about other neighborhood conditions relevant to planning, strategies, and interventions
The session is designed to help answer the following four questions:
- Where to find the data?
- How to extract the data?
- What each dataset tells you, and what its limitations are.
- How to use these datasets to understand neighborhood conditions better?
This kickstart session gathers data from both national and local sources to conduct a quick demographic analysis.
Please register by September 15th to ensure receipt of the Zoom link needed to attend this session. We look forward to seeing you on September 19th!

ABOUT JUMPSTART WILMINGTON
Jumpstart Wilmington was launched to help Wilmington residents to become developers of their own neighborhood through quality, community-focused real estate development training and financing options. Our program is modeled after the original Jumpstart Germantown Program, which was created by Ken Weinstein to facilitate the revitalization of the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia through high quality residential renovations.
Increased local developer capacity in Wilmington is the key to scaling development activity and revitalizing communities more rapidly. We see residents of Wilmington communities as the best resource for neighborhood revitalization, as many have potential to effect positive change in their neighborhoods. Jumpstart Wilmington can provide aspiring developers who live in Wilmington communities with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to rehabilitate key properties, one at a time. In the absence of established real estate developers willing to invest in smaller scale projects, this program will cultivate a force of new local developers who currently reside in Wilmington or have a commitment to improving Wilmington neighborhoods.
